Garden Butler Services
Earthly Comforts provides practical, professional garden care for homes and properties across Sandwich and the surrounding area.
Our Garden Butler service covers everything from regular garden maintenance and seasonal care to planting, pruning and bringing neglected areas back under control.
Every garden is different, so we don’t work from rigid maintenance packages. We assess what your garden needs, agree priorities with you, and provide the right care throughout the year.
Regular Garden Maintenance
Regular maintenance forms the heart of our Garden Butler service.
We provide ongoing care to keep gardens attractive, healthy and manageable, with the work naturally changing as the garden moves through the seasons.
This can include:
Weeding and general border maintenance
Deadheading and cutting back
Pruning and plant maintenance
Tidying beds and planted areas
Managing unwanted or excessive growth
Leaf and debris clearance
General garden tidying
Keeping paths, edges and garden areas presentable
Seasonal maintenance as required
We can arrange visits to suit the garden’s needs, from regular ongoing care to less frequent seasonal attention.
Planting & Borders
Beds and borders rarely stand still. Plants mature, spread, decline or outgrow their position, while gaps appear and planting schemes gradually change.
We can help maintain and improve existing planted areas through:
New planting
Border renovation
Plant replacement
Moving and dividing suitable plants
Weeding and cultivation
Deadheading
Staking and supporting plants
Seasonal cutting back
Pruning herbaceous plants and shrubs
Soil improvement
Mulching
Managing overcrowded planting
Developing neglected or underused areas
We are equally happy improving an existing border gradually rather than replacing everything and starting again.
Lawns
For many gardens, the lawn provides the structure around which everything else sits.
Our routine lawn care includes:
Regular mowing
Lawn edging
Tidying around lawn boundaries
Managing seasonal growth
General lawn maintenance
Preparing lawns for winter and spring growth
Where a lawn develops problems requiring specialist treatment, we will explain what we can reasonably undertake and when specialist lawn care may be more appropriate.
Hedges & Shrubs
Established hedges and shrubs need regular attention to prevent them becoming oversized, untidy or difficult to manage.
Our care can include:
Routine hedge trimming
Hedge shaping
Shrub pruning
Seasonal pruning
Reduction of suitable shrubs
Removal of dead or unwanted growth
Managing overgrown shrubs
Renovation pruning where appropriate
Care of established climbers
Wisteria pruning
Rose pruning and maintenance
Pruning is undertaken with consideration for the plant, the season and the purpose it serves within the garden rather than simply cutting everything into shape.
Seasonal Garden Care
Gardens change considerably throughout the year, and some of the most important work happens during seasonal transitions.
Seasonal Garden Butler care can include:
Spring garden preparation
Autumn garden work
Winter cutbacks
Leaf clearance
Preparing beds and borders
Cutting back spent perennial growth
Seasonal pruning
Tidying after periods of rapid growth
Preparing gardens before or after holidays
One-off seasonal spruce-ups
We can also provide additional visits when a normally manageable garden suddenly needs a little more attention.
Overgrown & Neglected Gardens
Sometimes a garden gets ahead of its owner.
Whether a property has been empty, maintenance has fallen behind, or an area has gradually become unmanageable, we can help bring it back under control.
Depending on the garden, this may include:
Heavy weeding and clearing
Cutting back excessive growth
Hedge and shrub reduction
Removing unwanted vegetation
Clearing neglected beds and borders
Re-establishing lawn edges and garden structure
General garden clearance
Preparing a garden for ongoing maintenance
Where possible, we recover the garden rather than strip it out. Established plants worth retaining can often become part of the garden again once we bring competing growth under control.
One-Off Garden Work
You don’t need to become a regular maintenance client to ask us for help.
We undertake appropriate one-off garden work and smaller projects, including garden tidy-ups, border improvements, planting work, seasonal attention and preparing gardens for particular circumstances.
If the work is larger or more involved, we will discuss what is required and provide an estimate before proceeding.
Green Waste Removal
Garden maintenance inevitably produces green waste.
For regular Garden Butler clients, we offer Green Waste Collection for £6.00 per month for normal quantities generated through our work.
We are also happy to collect a small amount of green waste generated by clients through their own routine gardening. This is limited to up to four 125-litre bags per calendar month as part of the monthly collection service. This allowance is intended for ordinary activities such as light weeding, deadheading, leaf collection and occasional light pruning.
Additional client-generated green waste can normally be collected at £2.00 per 125-litre bag.
Larger projects, heavy cutbacks and clearances undertaken by Earthly Comforts can produce considerably more material. Where appropriate, we charge green waste from this work at £2.00 per 125-litre bag, or arrange specialist collection where the volume or type of material requires it.
If another gardener or garden contractor has generated green waste, we can usually still arrange collection. This falls outside our normal Garden Butler Green Waste Collection service and is therefore charged separately at a higher collection rate.
Earthly Comforts G.P.M. Ltd is registered as a Lower Tier Waste Carrier.
A Garden Changes Through the Year
Garden Butler isn’t intended to be a rigid checklist of jobs.
A garden that needs mowing, weeding and deadheading in June may need hedge work, pruning and leaf clearance several months later. Priorities change with the weather, the seasons, the plants, and how you use your garden.
Our role is to provide the practical care it needs at the appropriate time.
Something Not Listed?
Gardens don’t always fit neatly into categories.
If you need something that isn’t mentioned above, ask. If it falls reasonably within our Garden Butler service, we’ll explain how we can help. If the work requires specialist expertise, we’ll let you know.
